peanut butter oreo balls pinI dove into making these peanut butter Oreo balls on a whim because I found peanut butter melting candies at Michael’s. They turned out to be a hit, far beyond my expectations. These little treats blend the creamy richness of peanut butter with the crunchy, distinctive taste of Oreos. It’s a recipe that strikes the perfect balance between indulgent and incredibly easy to make. You won’t believe the flavor packed in each bite. Their no-bake nature means you can whip up a batch whenever the craving strikes or the occasion calls for a quick, yet delectable, snack. For anyone who loves the combination of chocolate and peanut butter, these peanut butter Oreo balls are a dream come true. They promise a mouthful of creamy, chocolaty, and peanut buttery goodness, making it hard to stop at just one.

Ingredients and Equipment

I gathered everything needed for peanut butter Oreo balls. Oreos and cream cheese form the base. Then comes the peanut butter melting candy for that perfect coating. Every bite promises a delicious crunch wrapped in smooth, creamy indulgence.

For the tools, I lined up a few essentials. A food processor makes crushing the Oreos a breeze. I also like to use a special dipping tool (that I also got at Michael’s) to help me easily coat the peanut butter Oreo balls, but this is optional. A fork works just as well!  Finally, baking sheets lined with parchment paper await to hold these treats as they chill to perfection.

These key items ensure the process runs smoothly. With them, creating these treats becomes an easy, joyful task. Excitement builds as each step brings us closer to indulging in these delectable homemade delights.

Preparation and Steps

1. Place your Oreos and your cream cheese in a food processor. Pulse until a thick, moldable dough forms. This could take a minute or so, and you may have to scrape down the sides of your food processor with a rubber spatula

2. Form your dough into 1-inch balls. Place your Oreo balls on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

3. Chill your Oreo balls in the fridge for about an hour or the freezer for 30 minutes. The chilling helps them keep their shape better while you coat them in peanut butter and decorate.

4. After your Oreo balls are chilled, melt your peanut butter candy melts according to the package instructions. Add a little bit of coconut oil (I don’t actually measure it, but I would say a teaspoon or 2) to make the candy melts a little thinner and easier to work with.

If you can’t find peanut butter candy melts and still want to enjoy some yummy peanut butter Oreo balls, check out this recipe for Easy Vegan Oreo Balls. They taste just as peanut butter-y, and you can use regular melting chocolate instead of vegan chocolate if the vegan part of the recipe isn’t a concern for you.

5. Carefully dip your Oreo Balls in the peanut butter coating and gently place them back on the cookie sheet lined with parchment paper to set.

Note: You might end up with some peanut butter coating that kind of puddles and hardens beneath some of your Oreo balls. Once everything has hardened and set, you can carefully break that off with your fingers.

6. Optional: Decorate your Peanut Butter Oreo Balls. I tend to go with a simple chocolate drizzle, because I feel like the drizzle kind of obscures the fact that not all of my Oreo Balls are the same size. This may or not be true, but it makes me feel better!

Follow these steps closely, and you’re set for success. You’ll soon be enjoying homemade peanut butter Oreo balls, each a perfect blend of chocolatey, peanut buttery goodness, creamy on the inside and deliciously coated on the outside.

A Note About Decorating

As I mentioned above, I kind of took the lazy approach to decorating my peanut butter Oreo balls. First, I melted some dark melting chocolate. Then, I used a spoon to drizzle this chocolate over the balls meticulously. I really like the simplicity and the visual contrast.

However, if you wanted to go fancy, you could add some crushed Oreos. Make sure you do this while your peanut butter coating is still wet, so the crushed Oreos stick! Also, you’ll probably want pretty small, fine crumbs.

You could also add some chopped peanuts to the outside of your peanut butter Oreo balls if you wanted to. Again, make sure to do this before the outer coating sets. There are so many possibilities for this! If you really wanted to impress, you could make one batch of these Oreo balls and just decorate different ones differently. Then, place them on a serving platter and let your friends and family choose which ones they want!

Storage and Serving Tips

I made these peanut butter Oreo balls last minute on a whim, but my husband and I could not possibly eat all of them. Luckily, incredibly easy to store on top of being delicious. You’ll want to keep them in an airtight container. For short-term storage, place them in the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for up to a week. This makes them perfect for making ahead of an event or party.

For longer storage, freezing is your best bet. Just wrap them carefully and they can last for a couple of months. This method is great because you can enjoy them whenever the craving hits. Thaw them in the refrigerator overnight or on the counter for a few hours before serving. They taste just as great after freezing.

When it’s time to serve, let them sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. This ensures they’re perfectly soft and creamy on the inside. These peanut butter Oreo balls are not just tasty; they’re also incredibly versatile and convenient. Enjoy their rich flavor and smooth, decadent texture any time you wish. Making them ahead saves time and lets you savor the moments with your loved ones without the last-minute rush.

Playing with different Oreos adds a fun twist. You can choose from a variety of Oreo flavors. Think golden, birthday cake, or even the actual peanut butter ones. Mixing flavors gives each batch of peanut butter Oreo balls its unique twist. Maybe I wouldn’t mix the lemon Oreos with peanut butter, but to each his own!
