How to Make Salted Caramel Brownie Fries

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F

2. Put butter in a large mixing bowl and melt in microwave

3. Add sugar and vanilla to melted butter. Whisk together until sugar is mostly dissolved in butter and butter is not hot anymore

4. Add eggs, whisk until well combined

5. Add dry ingredients, whisk until well combined

6. Add batter to a 9 x 13 baking pan lined with parchment paper. Spread batter throughout the pan and make it flat on top with a rubber spatula.

9. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until brownies are set

10. Allow brownies to cool completely.

11. Carefully remove parchment paper and brownies from pan. Place brownies in the freezer for around 30 minutes to firm them up. Make sure they lie flat when you freeze them!

12. Cut your brownies into shapes of fries with a sharp knife.

13. Melt salted caramel candy melts according to package instructions

14. Add a bit of coconut oil to the candy melts to make them a bit easier to work with. I don’t actually measure mine, but I would say a little less than a teaspoon for each 8 ounces of candy melts.

15. Lay out a clean piece of parchment paper to rest your coated fries on.

16. Carefully dip brownie fries in melted salted caramel, covering them completely, and remove with a fork or a dipping tool. Gently place flat on a piece of parchment.

17. Allow fries to set completely before moving.

18. Optional: Melt some dark chocolate with a bit of coconut oil. Put melted chocolate in a squeeze top bottle and drizzle over your fries to decorate them.

Pro Tips

Whipping up a batch of salted caramel brownie fries might just be the easiest and most delightful way to switch up your dessert game. If you’re like me and always on the hunt for dessert recipes that look fancy but are actually easy to make, then you’re in for a treat. Let me share some pro tips to ensure your brownie fries come out perfectly every time.

  • Even Cutting: For those picture-perfect brownie fries, use a sharp knife and don’t rush the cutting process. After baking, let your brownies cool completely and then pop them in the freezer for a bit – this makes them easier to cut into that classic fry shape. If you want to get really fancy, a ruler can help you achieve uniform sizes.
  • Perfect Caramel Coating: Make sure you melt your salted caramel melting candies according to the package instructions to avoid burning them. I don’t actually measure how much coconut oil I add. I add just enough to make the texture of the melting candies a little thinner so that the excess coating naturally drips off.
  • Kitchen Tools: I like to use a chocolate dipping tool that I bought at Michael’s to easily coat my brownie fries. You can also use a fork, though. The fork is a little trickier to get your coating to come out smooth. Try to lay your brownie fries as flat as possible and don’t touch them until they are set.
  • Storing Leftovers: On the off chance you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container between layers of wax paper in the fridge. They’ll keep for a few days, but I doubt they’ll last that long once your family gets a taste!

Whether you’re baking for a holiday, a party, or just looking for comfort food, these salted caramel brownie fries are bound to be a crowd-pleasing dessert.

FAQs

So, you’re gearing up to make these decadent salted caramel brownie fries and might have some questions on how to tailor this recipe to your taste or dietary needs. Let’s dive into some of the FAQs that I’ve put together. If you have questions that I did not answer here, pleae leave them in the comments and I will happily add them!

  • Can I make the brownie fries vegan or gluten-free? Yes, absolutely! For vegan brownie fries, substitute the eggs with about ⅓ cup applesauce (if your batter looks dry, add another tablespoon or two) and use vegan butter. Instead of salted caramel candy melts (unless you can find vegan ones!), I would recommend just coating your brownie fries in vegan-friendly chocolate melted in the microwave with some coconut oil. For a gluten-free version, simply swap out the all-purpose flour for your favorite gluten-free flour blend.
  • Is there a substitute for the caramel candy coating? If you’re not a fan of caramel candy or can’t find the salted caramel flavored melting candies (I get mine at Michael’s), you can always use just regular chocolate. Add a little bit of coconut to your regular chocolate to help it melt without burning, but not too much, because then the chocolate won’t set to a hard texture again. Sorry I don’t have measurements for this, but I would start out with about a ½ teaspoon or coconut oil per 8 ounces of chocolate, and then add another ½ teaspoon more if you see you need some.
  • How do you store leftover brownie fries? Although I doubt you’ll have leftovers, if you do, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. You can also freeze them for up to a month. Just make sure they’re well-wrapped to prevent freezer burn.
  • Any tips for cutting perfect brownie fries? For evenly sized fries, let your brownies cool completely in the pan. Then, put your brownies in the freezer to firm them up any more. Finally, use a sharp knife to cut them into strips.
  • Can I make these with a brownix mix from a box? Absolutely!! In fact, it was my original intention to write this recipe with a boxed brownie mix. Until I went to my pantry and realized that I didn’t have any brownie mix. However, most brownie mixes do have baking instructions for 9×13 pans, so you could easily use a box mix. If your box mix doesn’t have baking times listed for a 9×13 pan, just go with the time for an 8×8 pan and shave off 10-15 minutes. Then, check your brownies every 2-3 minutes until they’re done.

I hope these answers help you feel more confident in tackling this recipe for salted caramel brownie fries. Happy baking!

Make Salted Caramel Coating and Coat Brownie Fries

  • Melt salted caramel candy melts according to package instructions
  • Add a bit of coconut oil to the candy melts to make them a bit easier to work with. I don’t actually measure mine, but I would say a little less than a teaspoon for each 8 ounces of candy melts.
  • Lay out a clean piece of parchment paper to rest your coated fries on.
  • Carefully dip brownie fries in melted salted caramel, covering them completely, and remove with a fork or a dipping tool. Gently place flat on a piece of parchment paper.
  • Allow fries to set completely before moving.
  • Optional: Melt some dark chocolate in the microwave with a bit of coconut oil. Add melted chocolate to a squeeze top bottle and drizzle over your salted caramel brownie fries for decoration. Allow the chocolate drizzle to set again before moving your brownie fries.

Notes

**Coconut oil: I never measure my coconut oil to add to melting candies, so I never know exactly how much to say. I just add a little bit so that the melting candies have a texture that's a bit thinner. That way, the excess coating drips off on its own, and it makes the process of coating each brownie fry a little faster and easier.
**Chocolate for decoration: I also don't measure how much coconut oil I add to regular chocolate chips to make a chocolate drizzle. It's definitely more coconut oil than what you would add to melting candies, but also not a ton because we're not making a lot of drizzle. The same principle applies: You just want to water down the texture to make your drizzle actually drizzle.
